Uganda's national childhood vaccination program, established in 1983 with a mandate to fully immunize the country's infants and women of childbearing age, building on Uganda's earlier distinction as one of the first African countries to eradicate smallpox. Political instability and civil conflict in the early 1980s stalled the young program and drove immunization coverage down before President Yoweri Museveni personally relaunched the Uganda National Expanded Program on Immunisation, known as UNEPI, in 1987, calling on local leaders nationwide to support immunization delivery even as funding, health workforce numbers and the vaccine cold chain all remained constrained in the years that followed. UNEPI today targets children under one year old, ten-year-old girls receiving the human papillomavirus vaccine, and women of childbearing age, delivering vaccines against tuberculosis, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, hepatitis B, cervical cancer, and Haemophilus influenzae and pneumococcal infections as part of Uganda's routine immunization schedule.

Entity-backed identity for the program-kind enum value this public health program already carries, resolved to a health practice by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The program-kind fact itself stays on the program unchanged.
