A set of global HIV treatment targets announced by UNAIDS in 2014, calling for 90 percent of people living with HIV to know their status, 90 percent of those diagnosed to receive antiretroviral treatment, and 90 percent of those on treatment to achieve viral suppression, all by the year 2020. Meeting the targets was projected to leave about 73 percent of all people living with HIV virally suppressed, a level UNAIDS modeling suggested would substantially curb further transmission of the virus. The 90-90-90 framework was later extended into a more ambitious 95-95-95 target for 2030, intended to reduce annual new HIV infections and AIDS related deaths by 90 percent compared with 2010 levels.
