Christopher J. L. Murray is an American physician and health economist who, with Alan Lopez, pioneered the Global Burden of Disease approach to measuring health loss and helped develop the disability-adjusted life year as its central metric. He has served as founding Director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington since 2007, after directing the World Health Organization's Evidence and Information for Policy cluster from 1998 to 2003.
